Background
Aid Watch Palestine (AWP) is an independent, Palestinian initiative, which aims to stimulate and support efforts to make international aid more accountable to Palestinians. AWP envisions a community of aid actors – local and international, public and private – coming together to participate in critical and constructive scrutiny of aid. In doing so, the possibilities for aid to transform into a productive resource in advancing long term solutions, supporting the struggle for Palestinian self-determination, become greater.
To realize this aim, AWP strives to ensure that information about aid is available, current, accurate and accessible to the Palestinian community. Concurrently, AWP views Palestinian participation in the analysis and critique of aid as pivotal to changing the discourse on aid and development. Knowledge of community rights in relation to aid, and the availability of mechanisms to claim those rights, is likewise essential. Those who take part in constructive criticism of aid must also be supported in their efforts, and aid actors who fail to comply with global standards and commitments to rights-based procedures must face consequences. Collectively, AWP views these components as key factors contributing to long-term change in aid to the occupied Palestinian territories (OPT).
Researcher Roster
As part of its work to provide current, accurate and actionable information on aid, as well as analyses of its political implications, AWP conducts qualitative research on a number of areas related to its mission and vision (see this 2015 report on aid reaching the Israeli economyas example).
